HOW SWEDE IT IS!
KENT TO TOUR THE STATES WITH CARDIGANS IN FEBRUARY
Swedish Grammy winners were originally discovered by RCA/BMG Sweden while opening for fellow countrymen
Los Angeles, January 15, 1999 — RCA Records recording group Kent, whose single, ”If You Were Here,” was heard by KROQ’s morning show DJ Gene ”Bean” Baxter while on vacation in Iceland and immediately added to the influential L.A. station’s playlist, will begin a U.S. tour with fellow Swedes the Cardigans on February 1 in Philadelphia at the Theatre of Living Arts. The group will also play a special date with Silverchair at the Gavin Convention in New Orleans on February 18 at the House of Blues. The band, whose debut stateside album, Isola, has drawn critical raves, made their U.S. bow last November 5th at the CMJ convention in New York City, opening for fellow Swedish band the Cardigans at the Bowery Ballroom. At the time, the group also gave an in-store performance at the Virgin Megastore in Union Square.

Kent’s ties with the Cardigans go back to 1992, when they were signed by RCA/BMG Sweden after label execs saw them opening for the group. Kent have released three albums in Sweden, earning the band two Swedish Grammys and three platinum records. Isola marks their first album recorded in English, and American debut. When their album came out in the U.S. last Fall, the Baltimore Sun called it ”a gorgeous cycle of songs about dreams, blue cellophane and frozen grass, full of haunting images,” while the Fort Worth Star Telegram called their music ”infectious… gorgeously repetitive… nicely blend(s) Catherine Wheel’s waves of feedback with Oasis’ catchy melodies.” Allstar, an online magazine, simply raved, ”a melodic pop treat,” with Venice magazine chiming in, ”Here today… everywhere tomorrow.” M2 named them their Artist of the Month in November, and they appeared on the MTV sister network as guest VJs.
